About UUID v4
UUID v4 (Universally Unique Identifier version 4) is a randomly generated 128-bit identifier. It has the format:
xxxxxxxx-xxxx-4xxx-yxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxWhere x is any hexadecimal digit and y is one of 8, 9, A, or B.
The probability of duplicate UUIDs is extremely low, making them ideal for:
- Database primary keys
- Session identifiers
- Distributed systems
- File naming
